About

My name is Gema Gomez. I enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing, designing and doing any other creative activity for fun. During the day I work as a software engineer. When I am not working on server stuff, I like to pick up my needles, crochet hook or sewing machine(s) and create something amazing from scratch. Or my computer. I love experimenting with textures and colors.

My passion for the crafts started in October 2013, during a work sprint in Boston, MA. We spent a week testing software and planning work for the coming months during the day and visiting yarn shops and buying hooks on-line in the evenings with a colleague. One of the new hires in my team had her crochet projects with her and I was so curious about this craft that she introduced me to crochet. I have been investigating the crafts every since. When I got back home I kept practising and started to look for local yarn shops and providers. Learning about yarn, hooks, techniques...

Knitting came a year later, when I realised that there were a few things I couldn’t do with just the crochet hook, so watched some videos online, bought some needles and went to training in the local friendly yarn shop and that got me all the way to reading patterns and being able to knit without leaving big holes on the fabric.

Then I decided to get a sewing machine and learn how to use it. Later came the overlocker. During the pandemic. Not only did I learn how to use an overlocker, I got hooked on quilting. I started piecing simple quilt tops and then more intricate ones. Then came the long arm quilting machine. Now I am learning how to quilt properly.

I like to play the piano and the saxophone, with varying levels of success. Let's say my fiber skills are stronger than my musical talents, and I am ok with that :D
