2025 has been a year of sewing and focus on the craft. Having said that, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the blog, and just focussed on physical journalling alongside my project making. I have also worked full time, so my time to spend sewing was as constrained as always.
This is what my journal says I finished in 2025:
Quilt tops finished
- Owl Quilt top was finished January 15th.
- Stellar Zebra top was finished February 5th.
- Spirit of Adventure top was finished during sewing retreat, July 27th.
Planned and/or started a few quilts:
- Dear Jane: I have a plan to do a Dear Jane over the coming years with scraps of previous quilts. I went as far as choosing a background and buying the yardage, no blocks have been started from this quilt yet.
-
Blossom: Blossom is cut but not sewn, I attended all the calls to learn how to do things, so the sewing should be fairly straight forward when I get to it.
-
Endangered Species: I have subscribed to the Endangered Species quilt and have all the blocks neatly stored away, this is part of my plan to return to FPP.
-
Big Hummer Quilt Kit from Legit Quilts. I bought this kit in August and it did not arrive until well into November, I have not made a start yet. It took a while for the kit to be back in stock due to shortage of some of the colors. Bearing in mind these quilts were so popular at Festival of Quilts, I was hoping it'd be a bit easier to order in the UK, unfortunately it wasn't and the comms were not super clear.
Finished
- Fraktal Quilt: This is a quilt I made for my mother. I haven't dared washing it yet, it is wool batting, but I am hoping it will be ok due to it being the same batting I used for a mystery quilt that has been washed a few times happily. I finished the quilting and binding July 19th, after having started this quilt back in 2020.
- Sashiko, finished and started a couple of sashiko pieces.
Basted and Quilting in progress
- Piazza Mystery Quilt: I made progress on the basting and quilting of Piazza, but it is not finished yet. Started quilting August 25th, after basting it twice due to a snafu with the backing and batting.
Learning about creative endeavors
I attended Color Camp 2025, from Alison Glass. I learnt how to use color and made a few test pieces. Started late March and lasted 6 weeks!
Bags
Atlas Zipper Case was finished August 23rd.
Social
Attended Modern Quilt Club Retreat in July, 3 days.
Attended Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, early August.
Went to a Hawaian Quilt exposition in Oxford, in March.
Life
This year for Christmas I got a present that I am cherishing and was totally unexpected. A friend saw it and thought of me, so now it hangs proudly on my sewing room door:
As per the rest of things that happened, all I am going to say is that it has been a year packed with change and first times. We've done many things for the first time, and 2026 is looking busy in and out of work, which will probably mean my sewing is going to take a back seat for a while. I am however really excited about 2026. Bring it on!
